Numerous cases of sexual harassment occur in well-known companies, and the public may never hear about the incidents. On the other hand, there are times when well-publicized cases make the news. Many Florida residents may have been reading about a sexual harassment lawsuit levied against a giant video game publisher. The news reports could raise further awareness about a prevalent problem in the workplace.

A game publisher’s sexual harassment scandal

The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing recently filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard for its allegedly ongoing corporate culture of sexual harassment and discrimination. Reportedly, the company’s male employees consistently subjected female workers to inappropriate comments and behavior. Female workers also claim wage discrimination appeared rampant within the company.

Activision Blizzard’s CEO provided a generalized response to some complaints in an eventually redacted email. Employee attitudes towards sexual harassment seemingly did not change even after upper management received complaints.

Taking action against sexual harassment

Reports about harassment charges likely make people wonder if similar incidents happen at other companies. Different companies may have varying tolerance levels for workplace harassment. Some might try to intimidate workers, while other companies may take swift action to address improper behavior.

Workers dealing with sexual harassment might find it necessary to document each incident. Reporting problems to management seems like an appropriate step. Keeping detailed notes about management’s response may prove helpful. Keeping a file of evidence, such as emails, text messages, and photos could prove valuable when initiating litigation.
