A site captain for a group of security guards has fired a discrimination complaint against the state of Florida and G4S Secure Solutions. The latter was his parent company when he worked from January 2017 to February 2019.
According to the complaint, which was filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, his supervisor created a hostile work environment with both racial and national origin discrimination. The rest of the site captain’s team resigned from the Department of Education, where the supervisor is also employed. The complaint says that employees who were white were treated differently from those who were not and that non-white employees faced discipline for acts that white employees did not.
The site captain says he reported the incidents at G4S at least three times in the last few months before he quit. He said the company warned him against endangering the contract. After a black employee was fired without a good reason, according to him, and an Asian employee quit, he and the other guards resigned. At the suggestion of her supervisors, their supervisor resigned after a week. Four of the man’s guards were given other jobs at different sites by G4S, but he says he was offered a lower, part-time job.
