It seems like technology improves with each passing day. Just when you think you have a grip on the “latest and greatest,” something else is introduced and the public goes wild.
While advanced technology is a good thing, it can also lead to trouble in many ways. This includes high tech sexual harassment.
This is a big problem in the workplace, as it means that employees can converse with one another at any time. There used to be a time when sexual harassment meant face to face communication. Now, this is no longer the case. Instead, this can occur through many forms of technology, such as texting, email, and social media.
With high tech sexual harassment becoming a bigger problem with each passing day, employers need to answer this question: What can be done to prevent this type of behavior?
There are many answers, including:
— Update your sexual harassment policy to address electronic harassment, such as text messaging.
— Create or update your company’s electronic communications policy.
— Train employees in accordance with your sexual harassment and electronic communications policies.
— Don’t ignore any allegation of high tech sexual harassment.
Employees aren’t the only ones who have to worry about sexual harassment. Employers must also be concerned with this, as it is their responsibility to maintain a safe work environment.
If you or a loved one have been a victim of high tech sexual harassment, document everything that happened and then file a complaint with the appropriate party. This can help put the issue to rest before it becomes more serious.
