What can a person do about workplace bullying?

There are times when workplace bullying can make for a hostile work environment. Subsequently, the victim finds it difficult to get his or her job done. Not only does performance fall off, but the worker has to deal with constant aggravation from one or more colleague.

If workplace bullying becomes an issue, there are several steps a person can take:

— Pinpoint the problem. No matter how serious the issue has become, you need to know what you are dealing with every step of the way.

— Take time away from work to understand your situation and decide what to do next. During this time, you will want to think about the best course of action. Your goal is simple: to decide what you can do to put an end to the bullying once and for all.

— Expose the bully to the rest of the company. If you are unable to resolve the problem one on one, it is time to expose the person to others within the company, such as your supervisor or the human resources department. Getting others involved, those with more power, may be all you need in order to put an end to the problem.

Workplace bullying remains a major problem in companies of all sizes and industries. There are people who always pick on others, which can quickly lead to a hostile work environment.

As a person being bullied, you need to know what you can to do end this behavior once and for all. Taking the right steps, no matter what they may be, will make you feel better about the future.
