Do you understand employer liability for harassment?

If you are harassed at your place of employment, it is not uncommon to feel uncomfortable to the point of not wanting to do your job. In addition to hindering your job performance, this can take a toll on your personal life as well.

A hostile work environment is nothing to take lightly, as it can have a negative impact on your life in a number of ways. While you may be the victim, it is important to realize that somebody is responsible. This will help you better understand that help is available and that you don't have to continue down this path any longer.

According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, there are times when a company is automatically liable for harassment. This is the case when a supervisor takes action that results in negative consequences for the worker, such as loss of wages, demotion or termination.

Those who feel they are being harassed by a supervisor has the right to report the violation to the human resources department. This is often the first step in finding a resolution. Furthermore, consulting with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is also an option.

There are times when a person who is being harassed will begin to feel he or she is hopeless, unable to do anything that improves his or her situation. Nobody wants to be in this position, but if you are, it is time to realize you can take steps to make things better. There are times when an employer is directly responsible for the harassment, including the power to put an end to the problem.
