Poll shows race discrimination remains a problem

If you are one of our Florida readers, you know that we regularly post local stories pertaining to race discrimination. In addition to the Sunshine State, these incidents occur in other parts of the country as well.

A recent poll of 1,003 adults conducted by Monmouth University shows that race discrimination is still a problem in the United States.

The results are astonishing:

— Eight out of 10 Americans agree that ethnic and race discrimination is still a problem in the country.

— Fifty-one percent noted that it was a big problem, with 30 percent saying it was only a small problem.

The director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute added the following: “The black community expresses support for the president, but there is also an undercurrent that race relations have not progressed as far as they had hoped in the past six years.”

This may be the most important takeaway from the poll: 84 percent of Americans believe it is very importance for people of all races to have equal opportunities.

This poll only takes into consideration the beliefs of a small portion of the population; however, it goes a long way in showing that people are still thinking about race discrimination and why it remains such a big problem in the United States.

This type of discrimination can be a problem in many environments, including schools and places of employment. When a person feels that he or she has been a victim of workplace discrimination, it can lead to many discussions about what happened. Some people even decide to consult with a legal professional about their rights.
