Regardless if you live in Florida or another state, you know one thing to be true: there is always a McDonald’s restaurant close by.
Unfortunately for the fast food company, it is being sued by a group of former workers who feel they were discriminated against based on their race.
Adding a twist to the lawsuit is the fact that the plaintiffs, based in Virginia, are not only suing their stores but also named McDonald’s corporate in the lawsuit.
According to reports, there are 10 plaintiffs, one of whom is Hispanic and the other nine of whom are African-American. These workers believe they were terminated last year because there were too many black individuals working at the location.
The lawsuit added the following, noting why the corporate entity was brought into the lawsuit, as opposed to focusing solely on the franchisee:
“In order to maximize its profit, McDonald’s Corporate has control over nearly every aspect of its restaurants’ operations. Though nominally independent, franchised McDonald’s restaurants are predominantly controlled by McDonald’s.”
The plaintiffs have already received legal assistance from Fight for $15 as well as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Discrimination can happen to anybody at any time. There are situations in which more than one individual is the victim, due to an overall belief or trend established by the employer.
