Are there laws protecting against disability discrimination?

It doesn’t matter if you live and work in Florida or another state, there are laws that protect you against disability discrimination. In addition to federal laws, some of which we are going to discuss below, there are others, such as state laws, that are similar in nature.

When it comes to disability discrimination in the workplace, the Americans with Disabilities Act is the one you should be most familiar with. This protects people with disabilities from discrimination at work, as well as other aspects of life, such as education.

Some of the other federal laws in place to protect against disability discrimination include:

— Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

— Air Carrier Act of 1986

— Architectural Barriers Act of 1968

— Fair Housing Act

— Rehabilitation Act of 1973

If you or a loved one has a disability, it is important to become familiar with these federal laws as well as any others that are specific to your state. Along with this, it is essential to focus on your particular rights, which will give you the knowledge necessary to determine if you have been discriminated against.

It is 2015, and there is no place for discrimination in today’s day and age. Despite the fact that most people understand this, there are always those who cross the line, such as when employers make a poor decision that breaks the law.

If a person is disabled and discriminated against, he or she may want to speak with an attorney who is skilled in this area of the law. This can be a good way to learn more about the many laws and how they are implemented.
