Most people in today’s age realize that race discrimination is wrong, but they don’t necessarily understand that it is against the law.
There are many federal laws that prohibit race discrimination. Along with this, there are state laws that do the same. Here is a list of federal laws to become familiar with:
— Civil Rights Act of 1964: Title VII (Equal Employment Opportunities). This law is in place to prohibit employment discrimination based on race, sex, religion, color, or national origin.
— The Equal Credit Opportunity Act. This prohibits creditors from discriminating against a person based on race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, or marital status.
— U.S. Code Title 42, Chapter 21. This prohibits discrimination against people, based on race among other things, in a number of environments including: employment, education, federal services, access to buildings, and more.
While the above are among the most well known race discrimination laws, there are others on the federal level such as: Fair Housing Act, Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, and Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Employers and employees alike must be familiar with the many race discrimination laws governed on a federal and state level. This helps every company to best deal with employees. At the same time, it allows employees to pinpoint if they have been discriminated against for any reason.
If people believe they have been discriminated against because of their race, they may want to learn more about the laws that protect them. From there, they could consult with an attorney for more specific advice.
