Every year, there are workers in the state of Florida who feel they have been wrongfully terminated. While some people move on with their lives, others decide to stand up and fight.
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority has found itself in the middle of a wrongful termination battle with a former employee.
A woman who previously worked as a deputy regional director filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against FINRA. While she claims she was wrongfully terminated after approximately 25 years on the job, FINRA does not agree. This has led the authority to file a petition in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, hoping the court will rule in its favor.
The woman brought the claim against FINRA earlier this year, claiming she was fired because of her age, gender, and an anxiety disorder.
FINRA continues to fight this claim, stating in court documents that the woman was terminated due to the reduction of staff related to a decline in claims. Furthermore, FINRA states that the woman’s performance during her final years was littered with complaints.
This story shows that a wrongful termination claim is almost always opposed by the firing company or organization. In this case, the woman feels she was terminated for no good reason but FINRA has a different version of the events.
