There is no reason for any type of discrimination in the workplace; however, this is a problem that has plagued many companies and employees over the years. Recently, a former teacher at Woodmont Charter School in Florida filed a discrimination complaint against the institution.
Not only was the woman a former teacher at the school, but she was also a parent. She claims she was fired after she took time away from her job due to an illness. Along with making her feelings known to the school, she has taken the time to file a formal complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She feels she was a victim of workplace race discrimination, as well as discrimination based on age, gender and medical disability.
At this time, the school is looking into her allegations. Furthermore, a spokesperson for the company that runs the school said, “We continue to work with the district to clear up any concerns and are confident that all questions will be answered fully and satisfactorily.”
There is nothing to take lightly when it comes to discrimination in the workplace. Regardless of what happened and how many people were involved, it is important for all parties to look into the circumstances of the event. In this case, the woman filed a complaint with the school while also getting the assistance of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
This story shows that workplace discrimination is still a major problem, despite the fact that all employers and employees are aware that this type of activity will not be tolerated under any circumstances. There are legal options for victims that can be pursued through civil actions.
