Types of Whistleblower Cases
Not everyone is entitled to compensation for reporting fraud or illegal activities by their employer. Nor is everyone entitled to protection from employer retaliation. Before you blow the whistle on your employer, it's best to find out where you stand.
There are two main types of whistleblower cases:
- Florida whistleblower cases: If your employer asks you to do something that is illegal, you can refuse to do it. You can also report illegal conduct to your employer. While you are protected from retaliation, you are not necessarily entitled to any compensation.
- Qui tam lawsuits: If your employer submits a false claim to the United States government, you may be entitled to a percentage of the money damages if you report your employer to the federal government. You are also protected from retaliation from your employer.
