Fighting and preventing race discrimination at work

Every worker has certain rights in the workplace, and this includes the right to work in an environment that is free from discriminatory treatment. Despite laws, training and changing cultural norms, race discrimination is still a problem for many in their place of work. It is the responsibility of every employer to implement and enforce certain standards that will reduce or hopefully eliminate the possibility of discriminatory treatment in the company.

One important step is increasing awareness of unintended racial prejudice that can sometimes be a problem in Florida workplaces. Often, people make comments that can have unintended consequences, such as causing offense and distress to others. There is no place for insensitive or ignorant conversations in a professional environment. Additionally, employers can fight discrimination by implementing clear communication standards for all employees.

Employers should clearly communicate that racial discrimination will not be tolerated in their places of business. They can strive to create diverse employee teams, starting by enforcing equal opportunity standards in their hiring processes. Should there be an incident involving discriminatory treatment from an employee, manager or customer, employers should take immediate action to handle the problem decisively and promptly.

Race discrimination has no place in any type of Florida work environment. Employers play a big role in fighting this behavior and reducing the occurrence of these types of problems from the highest levels of management. Overcoming discrimination in the workplace is possible through awareness, diversity, communication and equal opportunity hiring processes. In places where race discrimination is allowed to continue, victims may have grounds for legal action against their employers.
