Sexual harassment in professional sports environments

Florida employees may be aware of the recent news regarding the mistreatment of female employees who work in professional sports environments, particularly the National Football League. Within the last week, 15 employees spoke out about sexual harassment they experienced while working for a popular NFL team. The allegations are not limited to one incident, but they span a time period from 2006 to 2019. There are also reports of harassment from two female reporters who covered the team.

After the allegations emerged, the team hired a law firm to investigate the situation. The organization released a statement emphasizing its commitment to employee well-being. The allegations specifically mention men who were prominent within the organization, and reports indicate that three of the men named left the organization last week. While the owner is not specifically mentioned as a perpetrator, many believe he would have known about the hostile work environment within his organization.

Some of the specific types of harassment mentioned include making inappropriate remarks toward the women. There are also allegations of making inappropriate remarks about clothing, verbal abuse and more. A few cheerleaders who worked for the team say they were asked to pose topless for a photo shoot and act in a manner similar to a female escort on some occasions.

Sexual harassment is unacceptable in any type of workplace. If a Florida employee experiences this type of treatment, he or she does not have to endure it in silence or in fear of retaliation. In addition to it being appropriate to speak out, it may also be appropriate to seek compensation through a civil claim filed against the employer and other parties believed to be responsible.
