Former TBS employee files racial discrimination lawsuit

Florida cable viewers may be interested to learn that an African-American employee who once worked for TBS has filed a lawsuit against the company alleging racial discrimination. According to the woman, who was with the company for 13 years and was a manager in quality assurance, she was denied a promotion that was instead given to a white man who had fewer skills and was less qualified.

However, the woman says that the problem does not stop with her own experience. She alleges a pattern of discrimination against African-American employees that includes other instances of failing to promote them instead of white employees. Furthermore, she says that the positions of senior VP and higher have always been held by white people. The woman claims that African-American employees are deliberately relegated to positions that have less influence.

Because of this pattern, the woman may also file a class action lawsuit on behalf of her fellow African-American employees against Time Warner, TBS and CNN. She says that African-American employees also have to work harder for less pay than white employees.

Discrimination against people on the basis of race is prohibited by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. People who believe their employer is engaged in this type of behavior might want to consult a Boca Raton employment law attorney to discuss the situation. An attorney may be able to assess whether the situation constitutes racial discrimination and explain what an employee’s options are. Many companies may have a plan in place for addressing harassment and discrimination in the workplace, but a legal consultation may still be helpful for employees so they know their rights and what to do if their complaint is not investigated.
