Florida readers may be interested to learn that a former Tesla employee has filed a class-action lawsuit against the automaker, claiming that the company’s Fremont, California, factory is a “hotbed” for racial discrimination. The lawsuit was filed in Oakland on Nov. 13.

According to media reports, black workers have filed at least two other racial discrimination lawsuits against Tesla in 2017, claiming that the company did nothing after they complained about racial slurs. The latest suit is the first to make claims on behalf of a group of black workers.

According to court documents, the plaintiff began working at Tesla’s Fremont factory in April. The lawsuit claims that he was regularly called the “n-word” by colleagues and supervisors during his time with the company. It further claims that he notified the automaker’s human resources department in writing about his treatment, but it failed to act. The lawsuit says that Tesla terminated his employment in October, claiming that he did not have a “positive attitude.” The plaintiff is suing the automaker for allegedly violating California’s anti-discrimination law. He seeks unspecified damages. In addition to the racial discrimination lawsuits, Tesla is facing legal action for allegedly discriminating against older workers and gay workers.

Workplace racial discrimination is forbidden under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Workers who have experienced racial slurs, offensive comments, unlawful termination or retaliation for filing a complaint may find relief by seeking Boca Raton, Florida, workplace racial discrimination legal assistance. A legal professional could review the case and explain how to document discrimination claims for use in a legal action. A lawyer could also help file a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
