Florida woman makes wrongful termination claim

On Behalf of | May 3, 2014 | Wrongful Termination

When working out, many people drop their child off at a day care managed by the gym. While this appears to be a good idea on the surface, it sometimes leads to trouble.

Last week, a group of Florida mothers complained about issues surrounding the day care at multiple LA Fitness locations in the Seminole area. Recent reports shared that the gym was part of a police investigation related to a sexual abuse report in 2012. This is in addition to complaints from other mothers, such as one saying that her son was injured at one of the gym’s locations.

Following this up was information from a former worker, noting her concerns that the day care at the gym was entirely too crowded.

She said, “We would have over 50 children in that one room and there were times when there were only three of us working.”

After learning about the sexual abuse incident, in which a 5-year-old allegedly abused a 3-year-old, she contacted The Department of Children and Families Abuse Hotline. As a result, she says she was fired by the company. After being fired, she filed a wrongful termination claim. Despite dropping the matter when LA Fitness did not respond to her claim, recent reports have her rethinking her stance.

This is a complicated case, as it involves more than one issue for multiple gyms in the area. It appears that a former worker was trying to do her part in making the gym day care a safer environment, but was instead fired from her position. In the end, this only made the problem worse for everybody involved.
